Ongoing support at work for aboriginal scholars is crucial for their success and retention in skilled employment. Here are some ways First People Project will provide ongoing support:
Pair First Nations scholars with experienced mentors within the organisation who can provide guidance, support, and career advice. Mentors will ensure students navigate workplace challenges, set career goals, and build professional networks.
We will offer professional development opportunities such as training programs, workshops, and conferences that help our students enhance their skills, knowledge, and competencies relevant to their roles and career aspirations.
Provide flexible work arrangements such as remote work options, flexible hours, or job sharing to accommodate the diverse needs of our First Nations scholars, including those who may have caregiving responsibilities or transportation challenges.
Offer regular feedback and coaching to our First Nations scholars to help them identify areas for improvement, set performance goals, and track their progress. Provide constructive feedback that supports the First Nations scholar’s professional growth and development.
Offer financial wellness programs or resources that help First Nations scholars manage their finances, save for the future, and address financial challenges that may impact their work performance and well-being.
Create pathways for career advancement and promotion for First Nations scholars by providing access to leadership development programs, stretch assignments, and opportunities for skill-building and advancement within the organisation.
Offer cultural competency training to all employees, including managers and supervisors, to promote a diverse and inclusive work environment where our First Nations scholars feel valued, respected, and supported.
